WISER Relationships & Sexuality Education programmes are facilitated by the Education staff of Sexual Health West in schools and education centres all over the West of Ireland. WISER programmes use participatory teaching approaches that help students personalise information and strengthen their communication, decision making and critical thinking skills. Our programmes aim to enable young people to make healthy, happy, and informed decisions about their involvement or non-involvement in sexual activity, and their content and delivery evolves based on current research within sexual health education. We work in partnership with primary and secondary schools and parents to promote a safe, supportive and informed environment for the healthy development of children and young people.
We hope that this website will help young people to comfortably explore issues related to their sexual health in a safe and age appropriate online space. We hope young people who attend WISER Programmes find more resources here to support their continued learning, and those who haven’t done the programme have an opportunity to see what WISER workshops are all about.
Talking about sex can be awkward and uncomfortable, no matter what age you are. If you have any questions or concerns about sex or growing up, it is important to talk about it with someone you can trust. If you feel too uncomfortable to talk about it, try to remember that sex is a natural thing and that talking about it is important for your sexual health.
Our WISER Relationships & Sexuality Education programmes use effective teaching approaches that are participatory, helping students personalise information and strengthen their communication, decision making and critical thinking skills. Our programmes are constantly evolving as we keep up-to-date with current research within sexual health education and we fully support working in partnership with parents and schools to promote a safe environment within which young people can learn and develop.
